What is revision rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty or secondary rhinoplasty is an operation performed on patients who are dissatisfied with their noses after the initial procedure. The revision aims to correct the mistakes made in the first surgery or surgeries and fix unwanted results.

These may range from an unnatural look to various deformities such as an arched tip, tip drop, or a tip that is too high (also called pig snout) as well as complications such as nasal congestion and adhesions that lead to breathing problems.

The challenges of revision rhinoplasty

In revisions done to correct another surgeon's work, the patient's surgical history and nasal structure must be meticulously examined.

Revision surgeries often require grafts, which means cartilage needs to be taken from the nose, ear, or rib.

There may be more inflammation and scar tissue compared to primary rhinoplasty.

Severe tissue and cartilage loss calls for a more experienced surgeon and the use of more complex techniques.

How long does a revision nose job take?

While minor problems can be solved with a thirty-minute procedure, more serious revisions may require three to four hours.

How soon can I have a revision rhinoplasty?

For revision rhinoplasty, six months to one year should have passed since the last operation, the tissues should have healed, and the new appearance of the nose should have settled as much as possible. However, the patient may have a revision procedure earlier if it is absolutely critical.
